Dublin lodging help! 5/23-26
 

Hi there,

My friend and I are planning a last minute trip to Dublin at the end of this month (Fri May 23- Mon May 26). We are using miles and were able to get tickets. Unfortunately, I am having no luck finding a reasonably priced hotel/decent hostel. I checked Bewley's and the D4 hotels, hotels dot com, studentuniverse, etc. and can't find anything under 220 euros/night. We really can't afford $350/nt for a room but don't want to share a hostel room with 10 other people.

Does anyone have any suggestions of where I can look? Trinity doesn't offer student housing until June - do any other universities? Do hotels often hold rooms and not put them online? Should I call? We'd really like to stay within walking distance of the city centre.

PS: If you live in Dublin and would like someone to watch your house or pet for you that weekend... :)

PPS: If we can't find rooms in Dublin, should we consider Scotland?

It really should be possible to find something in Dublin in your price range and for those dates (there's nothing in particular on that weekend).

Have you tried Jury's Inns?

You could also widen the search to B&Bs and Townhouses if you haven't done so already.

Maybe try this site - it's the system that Irish tourist board use and there is a wide range of accomodation there from hotels to B&Bs to serviced apartments etc. You can check there for your dates and see what is available.

Hostelworld.com does not just list hostels, but also guesthouses. There are several with availability of private ensuite rooms on your weekend, although they do seem to be located about 2 km or so out of town. But with prices in the 65-80 Euro range, maybe they are worth considering.

Also, if you split up the nights, you will have more options for accommodation.

We had a decent stay at O'Neill's Victorian Pub, near Trinity. The three of us had a triple, I think it came to about $50 each per night. It was a bit noisy at night, but good earplugs take care of that (the street traffic outside never completely dies, and there's a train nearby). However, the pub food is good and the hosts are three brothers, and very nice.

Had a nice stay in Dublin just a few months ago at the Camden Court Hotel. It's short walk from St Stephen's Green and we found it pretty quiet at night. We had a really big family room (2 adults, 2 children) for 160 euro/night. There is also a small indoor pool (a big hit with the kids), turkish bath/sauna and full Irish breakfasts included in the price. We would definitely return.(www.camdencourthotel.com)

We were very happy with it. It's in Drumcondra, north of the city centre. But it's right on the bus line. At that time, it was 40 Euro per person.

We stayed at the Eliza Lodge, right in the Temple Bar area, a couple summers ago and really liked it (though it does get a little noisy at bar time). It's right next to the Liffey, so has terrific views. It looks like it currently charges about 165 euros for a double on the weekend. The search engines through TripAdvisor don't show rooms available for your dates, but you might try contacting the hotel directly. Sometimes the hotel has rooms even when Orbitz/Expedia etc. don't show them.

May 23-26 is a UK bank holiday weekend (also start of school half-term holiday)and a lot of people take short city breaks, including Dublin.

It's in your price range, good location right in center of Dublin (walking distance to Trinity, Temple Bar, Dublin Castle, etc.). Breakfast included in rate.

Search on kayak.com. Last year,
there were several doubles under 140 euros in Central Dublin.

There is a concert on that weekend so people have booked rooms out as they are coming from all over the country. I think its springsteen in the RDS so anywhere in D4 is booked out. Otherwise try B&B's some are nice in Clontarf or try southside as well. Most of the places mentioned below will be higher this weekend and many are booked out on laterooms.com. Try O'Neills as well! Good luck and book NOW or you may not find a place at this late time.

We had a nice stay at ABC Guest House. It's a little bit outside of the city center, but there's a bus right across the street that's super easy.
