Dublin, Ireland for 3 days!
 

Hello everyone, going to England in the middle of June, staying for 2 weeks! My friend and I are planning on flying to Dublin, Ireland since the flights are so cheap and aren't far and spending 3 days over there...I was wondering if anyone had any must see places that we should check out while we are there?! Best way to get around the city? Attractions? Cheap good local food?!

Start with a couple of good guide books for Dublin, then come back with more specific questions.

Do you have a place to stay or do you need advice on that? If so please provide a nightly budget and in which currency.

We use euros in Ireland. If you have an ATM card, you can pick some up in the airport.


Must-sees depend on your own personality and interests. Are you a 20 year old party animal, or a 60 year old culture vulture, or something different?

Stay here if you are looking for budget accommodation, good area and there are a few grocery stores in this area. The luas is on that side of the liffey and you can use that to get around but it is also very walkable. Check out a museum, Guinness storehouse with the gravity bar, Trinity college, St Stephen's Green, Graften St, pubs, live music etc. At the hostel they usually have discounts for things to see and do.

Regarding LUAS tram, it is not that useful in the core at this time due to a big mess of tram constructions going on in the core. LUAS substitute bus runs between Jervis and the The Point. You end up walking a lot especially now due to constructions. The rest of the Red Tram Line was out of order at times also last week.

If you plan to take transit often, there is a card called LEAP VISITOR CARD: https://about.leapcard.ie/leap-visitor-card that allows unlimited travel within Dublin during its validity. The point of sales locations are very limited. It also includes AIRLINK #4747 bus connection from airport to the city.

There is another card, standard LEAP CARD sold everywhere at convenience stores. https://about.leapcard.ie/about You pay 5€ for the card and then load fund. There is a maximum daily cap of 6.90€. You can also use this card for AIRLINK #747 bus, but takes 6€ each way from your credit.

Cash fares are higher http://www.dublinbus.ie/Fares-and-Tickets/Adult/ and also they don't give change.

I'm 22 and my friend is 22 as well, I was wanting to go to the Guinness storehouse with the gravity bar! Is it expensive? I'm just excited to walk around and take in my surroundings, any areas that are recommended to walk around during the day? Any good streets with pubs and such for nightlife?

Also, what will the weather be like in June?

Guinness storehouse expensive?
Enter "Guinness Storehouse entry fee" and you get url for the site telling you the simple entry+pint price as well as other premium activities you can pay for. There is a queue to buy entry ticket. If you are sure you would be visiting, you can buy ticket online and walk straight to the reception desk for those with prepaid tickets. Last week, there was a 10 minutes queue at the ticket window. There is no discount prepaying. However, study the price chart. The admission is different depending on the time of the day. The entry price goes up in the afternoon.

Guinness Storehouse is somewhat far to walk from the center, so a city bus would be useful for this visit.

Kriztina, you need to filter the advice you get here, because most members are in a different age category than yours. I'm from Dublin, and know my way around the city (and, like most natives of the city, have not been to the Guinness Storehouse). But no way would I be a good guide to nightlife for 22 year olds.

Be warned, Dublin is expensive.

Hostels are the cheap accommodation option. As a general rule, the south city centre zone is more comfortable than the north side. Check for availability in Kinlay House (http://www.kinlaydublin.ie/). The people there, or in whatever hostel you get into, will guide you better on the social life options than an "oul fella" like me.

Transport: the cheapest link between the airport and the city centre is Dublin Bus #16. It's an ordinary commuter service with limited capacity for baggage. I'm not up-to-date on fares, but it's about €3 each way. You need to have the right change to pay the driver. You won't need any other transport, because just about anything you might want to see is walkable.

Be forewarned that Dublin is crowded on the weekends with long lines to get into the touristy places and popular pubs. I've been to Dublin twice but I vowed my next trip will begin on a Sunday. Must sees for most people are Kilmainham Gaol(good history of Ireland vs British), Dublin Castle, Trinity College(Book of Kells), Guinness, and Jamison. Attend a service at St Patricks or Christchurch for something different. As I said, some of those places can have long lines for entry. Walk and shop at the Temple Bar for fun but find a pub elsewhere as they tend to be cheaper. Most meals run around 10 euros with Guinness from 3 to 5 euros a draft(again depending on which pub). If you are looking for cheap eats at least sometimes, try the local grocery store. You can get a day tour out of Dublin to several fun places. Belfast/Giants Causeway takes about a full day. Glenalough about 8 hours. We did a PaddyWagon tour but others have tried a Rabbie's tour to those places. Trips to the western side of the island would probably take too long. Have fun!! I can't wait to go back to Ireland myself.

It is not a bad price, free pint, gravity bar at the top, lot to see and they usually have a band playing on the restaurant floor. Great seafood chowder and Guinness brown bread there. I have been several times since the remodel and once before.

Museums are free. Jameson, just go in and have a drink, they don't make it there but the bar is worth a look. Great pubs over in that area also. http://cobblestonepub.ie/ That is why I suggested the hostel by Jameson.
