Dublin Hotels

Can you recommend a centrally located hotel in Dublin within walking distance of restaurants, shops, sights, and public transportation? Asking for a friend who will be traveling alone for a wedding. All suggestions welcome!

There are a LOT - what is the budget?

Indeed - budget would help as would some idea on the aim of the trip.

EXAMPLE:
Is it sightseeing ?
Is it simply a bed for the night ?
Is it a shopping trip ?
Does the person want luxury / cheap / fun .... ?

Oops! Sorry for the scant information! I think the budget is under $200 a night: enough for an interesting, comfortable place but not luxury. My friend is in his 60s, and his interests are basically getting the feel for the city: walking around but having access to transit if he decides to visit particular sights. Because he is attending a wedding, he will have just a few nights in town. Thanks!

That's about €185 - that isn't much for central Dublin but depending on the 'when' it could be doable. Rates tend to be very date specific. My fall back whenever budget is important is Premier Inn. But even PI, say near Temple Bar, could be above that -- again depends on the exact dates.

Have him check Booking.com where he can filter for location, price, etc.

Thanks! Budget aside (because I don't know how high my friend would go), is there a centrally located hotel that you have enjoyed and recommend? He's just looking for personal recommendations beyond what you can find on Booking.com.

We’re staying at the Hotel Riu Plaza The Gresham on O’Connell St in early April. Two of us, standard room with double bed, with breakfast for a total of €179. I’ve never stayed here before so I can only share my experience having afternoon tea in their public dining room many years ago - it was lovely. I’m anticipating a classic Dublin hotel without a lot of bells and whistles, which is perfect for us for a night. The location is really good (north of the river), especially if you’re traveling by bus. It’s a 15 minute walk to the quays where many of the bus lines have stops.

The Westin Dublin- a historic hotel located in the heart of Dublin, just a short walk from popular tourist attractions like Trinity College and St. Stephen's Green.
