Dublin Hotel info
What section is the best and safest to stay in Dublin. Want a 4 or 5 star hotel. What sections to avoid. Want to be centrally located to walk everywhere.
|
Stay in Temple Bar- it's the trendiest part of town and within easy walking of all the main sights.
Jury's Hotel is fine near St Patrick's church. |
We're going to Dublin in a few weeks. Booked the Fitzwilliam Hotel on St. Stephen's Green, located close to everything in Dublin central. Got a good deal, too. I called the hotel directly 353-1-478-7000...

Best located hotels (of quality) are The Fitzwilliam (I used to work there), The Westbury and the Stephens Green Hotel. All excellent and safe locations. Avoid Temple Bar - unless you want to stay in a noisy, drunken, dirty part of town. And I'd like to know what main sights Temple Bar is close to?

I stayed at The Merrion about 5 years ago. It was absolutely lovely, a 5 star. It has a beautiful bar in the basement, which used to be a cellar so full of nooks and crannys... v. nice. I remember they had a harpist on Sunday.
|
As above - the Merrion is a gorgeuos hotel - and has one of the best restaurants in Ireland (2 Michelin stars). You could also consider the Shelbourne - it's a bit worn and dated now but it's a fantastic location.

Tho Jury's Christchurch probably gets as much ink as any Dublin hotel on this board, after a recent stay there, I'll shop around a little harder next time. Sure, it's in a good location, and cheap, but the rooms are just passable and the charm nonexistent. These other hotels sound much nicer.
|
Perkins: Yes, stay on St. Stephen's Green but avoid the Shelbourne at all costs - it is far and away the worst "luxury" hotel in which I ever stayed - just awful!
|
I was at the Fitzwilliam Hotel on St. Stephens Green last week. It is in a perfect location...safe, near shops, restaruants, etc. and beautiful. We loved this hotel and would not look any further. Service was great

After reading NYTimes "Frugal Traveler" Daisyann something rave about Dublin's La Stampa Hotel, a newish boutique hotel just north of Stephen's Green--a perfect location--I tried it. The verdict: 2 thumbs up, way up. Reasonable rates, too, although weekends are more expensive than weeknights--the opposite of NYC.

Has anyone stayed at the Westbury in Dublin lately? Any comments?
|
I have stayed at Wynn's Hotel on Abbey Street (just off O'Connell). The Saints and Scholars Pub has some history, with pictures of Oscar Wilde, who frequented the place. It's a nice neighborhood!

The JurysDoyle Hotel Group has a good selection of hotels available in Dublin and sometimes has special offers at www.jurysdoyle.com

I stayed at The Westbury in Dublin earlier this year. The situation is fantastic - right on the main shopping street (O'Connell Street). The hotel itself is excellent, evening meal and breakfast was very good. Service is wonderful too. The rooms are very nice, albeit a little on the small side. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

We stayed at the Shelbourne about two years ago, and we LOVED it! We did have a very large room on the 2d or 3d floor (right at the top of the central stairs). Friends next door had a smaller room, but very nicely furnished. Tall windows, plenty of seating, and the bathrooms were spectacular!
