Dublin hotel experience

We will be spending several days in Dublin, and would like advice from people who have stayed in good (or bad) places in the city center/Temple Bar area. Moderately expensive is OK, but not very expensive.

I am a Dubliner so I haven't stayed in these places, but Jury's Inn in Christchurch has a good reputation - about IR40-50 per night. Bewleys Hotel, Temple Bar Hotel are okay, don't know how much though - I would advise to stay southside of the city. If you have names of hotels you are thinking of, post here and I'll give you my humble opinion. Temple Bar is right in the thick of it as far as bars/restaurants but the downside is loud drunkenness at night.

Dave,

Ten years ago we stayed at Buswells and found it a great place. The service is exceptional;. The location, as I remember, was central.

Failte!

Dear Dave:
We just returned from Dublin, where we stayed at the Mount Herbert Hotel, on Lansdowne Rd. It has all kinds of rooms (we ended up with a very large comfortable room after making a change) - just ask to see another room if you don't like the one they show you.
Staff was quite efficient in the dining room but they served the worst food we had in Ireland! The neighborhood is quiet & lovely - about 5 minutes from the city center (go by DART, a local train). I've no idea the price as we were on a tour.
In Temple Bar, which is very very lively at night, we passed by the Temple Bar Hotel (quite popular with tour groups) - right next door there is a huge night club (5 bouncers at the door) so if you're not a very very sound sleeper, I don't think that's a wise location.
A couple we met recommended a hotel called Buswell's but didn't give any details.
Susan

Folks,
Temple Bar is a place where if you rent a room over the weekend don't expect to get much sleep - it is the mecca for stag parties and hen nights (last night out with the gang before you get married) and they tend to be pretty loud.

Good located hotels in Dublin include Cassidys Hotel - Parnell Square just at the top of OÇonnell Street and across the road from the Gate Theatre and beside the Writer's Museum or on the southside - Jurys Ballsbridge, Bewley's Inn Ballsbridge, Burlington also in the same area, Westbury - centre city - just off Grafton Street, Buswells right beside the Government buildings and the National Museum (one of them), the National Library (place to go to research relatives and family history), Shelbourne (very historic and located on Stephens Green). One excellent place to stay is Jury's Inn Christchurch a short walk away from Trinty and beside Christchurch - price per room and very central.

There is a new hotel opening every month in Dublin and the range is extensive. Check out www.ireland.travel.ie for further assistant - official site of the Irish Tourist Board. Also www.hidden-ireland.com for some different places to stay. Hope this helps,

Cathy
