Dublin/Galway 9 days
 

My itinerary is starting to take shape and I have a few questions. Has anyone been to Kylemore Abbey and how did they get there? I won't have a car (I know - can't drive) anyhow - I would love to go there. It looks lovely. I thought I could spend a few days in Dublin and then head to Galway (train?) and then take day trips from there.

So to be precise:

Can someone recommend accommodations at around 200 US dollars in Galway?
Has anyone take tours from Galway? I love architecture and beautiful scenery.

I remember LatedayTraveller posted that she had been in Ireland. I hope she reads this.

Galwaytours.com they have great day tours. Park house hotel, close to bus station where tours pick you up.

I'll second the suggestion of Lally Tours in Galway. Just stop into their shop and discuss what you want to do, and they'll help you find the tours that best meet your needs.

Yes -- our tour (via Lally, of course!) through Connemara, including the Abbey, was one of the best parts of our trip to Ireland last month.

the stop there is about two hours. This was more than enough time for me to see the garden, mansion, and church; although I admit I walk quickly, rarely pause much, and didn't stop for lunch or shopping.

We stayed at a great hotel outside of Galway - not sure how you would get into the city without a car... probably bus.

It's unique and tries hard to be an un-hotel which it does pretty well. The attached restaurant is fantastic as well!

http://www.eyresquaretownhouse.com/ we use to stay at Forster Court but it went into receivership or something but this the townhouse is sort of a guest house/B&B and close to train and bus station where you can go for tours. Sort of the central meeting place. Eyre square is smack dab in the middle of Galway and close to shops and restaurants.

http://www.fahertytours.com/ We have used his tour company twice and loved the trip to Inishmore since he is from there. it included the ride to the ferry, the ferry ride and a van that took us all over the island.

I was in Galway in June 2015. I stayed at the Western Hotel, which was well located and comfortable. You can walk to the bus station and across the street is a tourist center with info on day tours. I also took Lally tours to Connemara and Kylemore Abbey. I had a great guide and enjoyed it very much. Galway is a great place to visit. Enjoy!

How long is the walk from Galway to Salthill? Is it a nice walk?

about a 30 minute walk. Depends if it is raining or not.

I stayed in a B&B in Salthill on one4 of my trips. There was a city bus from the corner three houses down from the B&B.

I liked the Great Southern on Eyre Square (2 stays there) -- right on the square, proximal to bus/train station.

Good craic and music at the Quays, walking distance.

I took a great day trip out of Galway to the Aran Islands.
