Dublin for 4 days
We (1st time, Amer. 50's couple w/18 and 8 yo sons)are relaxing with relatives in the Drumcondra area for 4 days at the end of a 2 wk whirlwind UK trip. Though I am sure they will be excellent guides I wanted a few things on the list to be sure to see/dine in case we start to set around and chat too much. I am thusfar not planning to rent a car -I believe there is good bus service into the center. But am also looking for a day trip -like Avoca(my mother spent summers on a farm there as a break from boarding school) or ? Would it be worthwhile to rent a car for a couple of days since we fill one up ourselves?

Check out Newgrange north of Dublin. It is something very interesting and think the boys would like it.

Thanks, looks very interesting and will include. Other thoughts? Is there public transportation to Avoca?

If you want to tour Newgrange make sure to go very early in the day or book a tour in advance if possible. We turned up one day around 2pm and all tours for the rest of the day were fully booked (and you cannot visit without a guide). We were brought to Knowth which was very interesting but if we had been set on seeing Newgrange we would have been disappointed.
