Dublin docks parking

My parents are going on a cruise from Dublin docks. Is anyone aware if they can leave their car here for 2 weeks? Or does anyone know of anywhere else close by that they could leave the car?

Thanks

Angela

Angela,

I don't know of any secure long-term parking near the docks, and I am sure you know that it's not an area to leave a car on the street overnight, let alone for 2 weeks.

Can they avoid bringing the car, or could you or some other person take it away and arrange to come back to meet them?

If that is not manageable, they could try Quickpark at the airport and use a taxi for the last few miles.

Thank you Padraig

I am trying to shuffle work commitments in order that I can bring them down, but this is a backup plan just in case!

Yes, parking at the airport might be the most sensible. The docks are only a few miles fom here, isn't that right?

I assume there won't be any taxis waiting around here, they would need to have one ordered in advance, or at least have a Dublin taxi contact number with them?

Thanks again

Angela

No problem getting a taxi. Quickpark and Dublin Airport's own long-term car park include a free shuttle service to the terminal, from where they can get a taxi with no difficulty. It's roughly four miles to the docks. I'm not up to date on taxi fares, but I'm sure it won't break them. I mentioned Quickpark because they are cheaper -- I think their current rate is €6 a day.

When they return, I am sure that there will be taxis at the port hoping for fares, but it seems a good idea to have a number just in case.

PS: Have they considered getting a train to Dublin?

Short and long term car parking is available at every port. Details as follows:

Dublin Port

Short term parking is available outside the terminal building. The cost is €1.50 per hour with a minimum charge of €1. Tickets can be purchased from the ticket meters which are situated close by. Vehicle clamping is in operation and the release fine is €80.00 Please make sure that your ticket covers your proposed length of stay.

Long Term parking is available directly beside the terminal building. The cost is €7 per 24 hours or part thereof. The cost per week is €40. The area is barrier controlled. Tickets are automatically issued on entry and you pay the amount due on exit. There is an automatic pay station just outside the terminal building. - cash and credit cards are accepted.

Your reply gave me hope, but unfortunately after making a call to the docks, they say they have no parking available.

Padraig, my Mother doesn't like trains, so unfortunately that is not an option.

Looks like I am going to have to drive them down from home (Armagh). Was hoping to avoid this as Friday evening is sure to be busy, but some things one just has to do!

Thanks for all your help.

Angela,
Going into Dublin on a Friday evening is far easier than coming out. Remember to have euro change for the toll on the M1, and you can use the port tunnel for the last bit of the journey (another toll).

As it's a Friday, you can go and party in Temple Bar after seeing them off!

There has to be parking there. Ring Irish Ferries.

When Lawchick posted, she brought to my mind that I had seen car parking near the ferry terminal, and I thought my advice was trumped.

It might be that the car park belongs to Irish Ferries, so the port authority might not feel that they can direct people using another company to park there. Irish Ferries might not mind. After all, they make money from it.
