Dublin Day Trips
 

Have much enjoyed reading the posts and helpful answers. I will be part of a family group of six spending about 1 full day and one half day in Dublin in September. We are interested in suggestions for day trips that we would all enjoy, and any ideas for perhaps finding a driver to take us or other recommended tours. Group overall has an interest in history, castles, scenery and quaint areas more than shopping. Thank you for your assistance!

<BR>I have taken the bus tours of the city that can be arranged at the Tourist Office on O'Connell Street. They give you a good overview of the city. <BR>Also there are excellent walking tours leaving from the front gates of Trinity College. We really enjoyed it. <BR>Have fun. <BR>

Claire, <BR>I would recommend the walking tours run by the History students of trinty College. It is one of the best walking tours, otherwise the Dublin Bus (not the other companies) Hop On and Hop Off bus tour of Dublin. In addition there are literature and pub crawl walking tours of Dublin in the evenings which are great fun and cover a lot of material and pubs and drink. Don't forget to see the Writers Museum in Parnell Sq and Dublin Castle, also the National Museums (Merrion Sq and Collins Barracks - there is abus linking the two). Scenery wise take one of the Dublin Bus tours out along the Bay, alternatively head up the Wicklow Mts with a Bus Eireann Tour (www.cie.ie). also worth checking is www.ireland.travel.ie or www.ireland.com./ For events in Dublin while you are in the city pick up a copy of the IN Dublin magazine, <BR>Hope this helps, have a good time, <BR> <BR>Cathy

Also head for Powerscourt outside of Dublin (not too far) and the Wicklow Mountains. Have lunch at Johnny Fox's pub.

1- Take the Old City and Trinity College walking tours. <BR> <BR>2- Rent a car and drive a short distance north to Newgrange. <BR> <BR>3- Walk across the bridges and see a play at night at the Abbey Therter.
