Dublin: Comfort Inn Smithfield

How is the area around there? Is it close to a lot of the touristy things?

Its excellent value and brand new so it should be nice. The luas tram stop is right at the bottom of the large square and the location is walkable to the collins barracks, Guiness is across the river and the Jameason tour is across from the hotel. Great value and there is an excellent trad music pub called the cobblestone across from it as well. Surrounding area is ok if not a bit up and coming urban area. Go for it the price is right. In the little mall across the way there is a cafe called Christophes for breakfast and lunch. they also do catering and the food is great. The supermarket in the square also has a small cafe inside. Town centre northside is 2 stops for Jervis street and you can take the millenium bridge here to temple bar (5 minutes from tram to temple bar).

How far would you say the walk to temple bar is?

SiobhanP Aug 8th, 2006 07:41 AM

25 minutes from Smithfield and 5 from the Jervis street Luas tram stop which you hop on at the bottom of Smithfield square. The building and the shops in the square are all new and the area is slowly being regenerated. the apts vbeside the Hotel are very nice and very expensive....we had a look at the show apartments.

We were originally going to stay at the jurys inn parnell street. Is that more convenient?

I would say they are on par as its up the top of O'connell but nearer the shops. I tjhink its slightly nicer around smithfield and less mobbed by people.

Hi Siobhan. Glad to hear that it's a nice place. I want to stay in the area sometime soon. I'd love to get to the Cobblestone. I missed it that last time. I'd like to try out the brew there.

You can check out Cobblestone gigs on www.musiclee.ie
Cobblestone is at the top of Smithfield and is a good place to check out for music - usually traditional Irish, but can have general folk music as well.
I agree with Siobhan that Smithfield is quieter than Jurys Parnell St., also the LUAS (new light rail) is a great way of getting there - just two 3 or 4 stops from centre city.

It's 2 stops to Jervis street and 3 to abbey all north side. I know this area well as i own an apartment here and lived in it for 4 years. I am in another part of the city now but I still have friends in the area and come visit regularly. ITs an urban renewal area and still in transition but perfectly fine to stay in as there is also Chief O'Neills across the square and the Jameson distillery tour. Let me know if you need more info.
