Dublin and Trim

We will be spending two days in Dublin (March 16-18) and two days in Trim?? (March 21-23). We have already booked March 16-18 at the O'callaghan Alexander in Dublin, but looking for suggestions for March 21-23 (interim will be spent in Paris).
We are flexible about where we stay March 21-23, but are planning on meeting distant family in Ballymahon, County Meath. We will have a rental car (scary!) and are wondering what would be a good place in the County Meath area to use as a base for those two days. We are interested in castles and scenic areas. Any suggestions?? We thought Trim Castle Hotel looks nice, but looking for opinions!
Thanks again!

The Ballymahon I know is in County Longford and it is not near Trim, but there may be another one near Trim? If visiting “my” Ballymahon I would stay at “Wineport Lodge" Glasson or “Glasson Golf Hotel” both on the east shore of Lough Ree (Lake) just a few miles from Ballymahon.

Yes, I believe that Ballymahon is in County Longford---we are also interestsed in going to Forgney Church (relatives buried there). Would your recommendations be close to the church as well?
Thanks again!

I think Forgney Church is near Pallas which is about three miles east of Ballymahon. Glasson is about 10 miles south of Ballymahon. If you are driving from Dublin, take the motorway to Athlone and then the Glasson/Ballymahon road from there.

We stayed at Highfield House in Trim last summer. It was great. The castle is right across the street.
