Dublin
Message: Hi all, we will be in Dublin for 4 days this June 05. My wife and I will be staying at our favorite hotel the Hibernian in the Ballsbridge district. This year we will be taking our 18 year old daughter and two of her girlfriends. I was wondering if anyone would have a suggestion of a hotel we coudl have the girls stay closer to the "action" of Dublin, possibly in the Temple Bar area, that would be reasonably priced and somewhat safe. Any help would be appreciated. Jon V

I would not be keen to leave 2 18 year old girls in a hotel in Temple bar? WOuld you do this in Times Square? They could stay with you and bus or taxi into town for the night life. There are also a few pubs etc nearby the hotel i.e. Searsons, Schoolhouse, the 51 that would be fun. If they want to party I would still keep them in the same hotel and let them off for the night and give them taxi fare to come home.

Seconding Siobhan's suggestion here. You won't find too many Dubliners socialising in Temple Bar because the marauding Stag and Hen Parties from the UK scared them off. In fact a lot of people, especially tourists, are horrified by the victims of binge drinking that litter the pavements of Temple Bar any time after 11pm at weekends. Take a walk along there with your daughter and her friends, and then be very grateful that you decided to settle your charges in Ballsbridge instead.

There are a handful of places they would like in Temple bar but I would avoid the clubs like Club M and Buskers. I think they are dodgy.
The Oliver St John Gogherty is touristy but fun with Irish Music upstairs every night. Also the Turks Head at the end of Temple Bar on the Corner of Parliament street is a young crowd and would be fun for them and there is a dance floor.
If they want a cool trendy place they could try Cafe en Seine on Dawson street. It's huge, all ages and always packed on the weekends. Ron Blacks is another bar down the road but maybe a bit older and both are more pricey bars.
More college type places would be the Merchantile & Trinity Arch on Dames street near Temple Bar. Also near Grafton street there are a few:
Hairy Lemon - Drury Street fun lively place
The Market Bar - Off Drury street - an old meat factory and like a huge hall/bar.
Hogans - Georges Street - laid back, DJ music big crowd on the weekend.
Jusge Roy Beans does cocktails and has a young crown Fridays.
I would send them to age appropriate places i.e. If they are not from Dublin I would not let them alone on Leeson street by themselves in Legs. All of the above listed are places they should like. I still go out every weekend so I have an idea of what going on in the city and where people go.

Thank you all for the information, I will definitely take your advice.
I'm still having A hard time trying to figure out what to do with these girls for five days in Dublin. 18 year olds aren't terribly interested in history or museums. How about shopping areas or any outher ideas? Should we use taxies or public transportation. Are those splash tours worth trying?
I Emailed a place in Ballsbridge that rents vacation flats with kitchens on Clyde Rd that might be good for them to stay. Thanks again for the help...Jon V

I would not stay in Temple Bar. There are plenty of interesting museums and things to do in Dublin, even for 18 year olds. Great theater, also shopping and strolling on Grafton Street. St. Stephen's Green (also has a mall with a TJ Maxx if things get desperate!). Merrion Square is nice, too.

We are leaving for Dublin on Super Bowl Sunday and then heading towards Galway and down the coast south to circle back to Dublin. We will have about 11 days. Any suggestions of places to stay in Galway, Dingle and Kinsale. Thanks for any advice you can give.
