dropping a car outside of Rome

We will be driving next May from Perugia to Rome in our rental car. We do not want to drive into Rome. Can anyone suggest a drop off location before Rome. We are renting with Kemwel or Autoeurope.
Thanks,
Don

I don't know exactly what agencies operate out of Fiumicino, but if either of those companies do, that would be ideal since it's well outside the city. Then you can take a train for 5 or 6 euros to a station in the city, or pay E11/a head to ride the Leonardo Express directly to Termini. Hope that helps!

Orte maybe the largest town on a rail line when coming from Perugia - the airport is a big of a detour but may be the only place you can return your car - depending on the company and would be a good choice unless there is a sizeable airport drop-off fee.

Orvieto is a bit beyond Orte but if you want to also see a dreamy hilltown that's it - but there is no left-luggage in Orvieto train station.

Orvieto is your best option, and plan to have lunch and enjoy this charming palce.

There is another active thread on a comparable topic. I recommended a FCO drop off on that thread. That poster wanted to get to Trastevere station, so FCO was an obvious choice. Click on my name to find the thread, if you wish.

What about dropping off at Viterbo (if permitted) and taking the local train that brings you to Piazza del Popolo/ Piazza Flaminia? That could be cool. I've always wanted to arrive at that station!!

Bob, I agree that Orvieto seems to be the perfect spot for lunch and the car drop. However, neither Autoeurope or Kemwel will allow a drop in Orvieto when I go to their websites to book. It's looking like the airport drop may be the way to go.
Thanks for the responses. Don

They may not be showing a drop off because of the day of the week or the time of drop off. I believe the Orvieto offices are closed on Sundays and during the afternoon lunch break, but open in the morning and late afternoon. Although they may not be open Saturday afternoon.

Zoecat, yes I had planned to drop the car off on a Sunday,I put Saturday in the profile and am still unable to drop in Orvieto at any time. It may be time to get our driver Fabio in Rome to pick us up in Perugia.
Thanks for all the help, what a great forum this is.

both those rental outfits mentioned are at the rome airport. fairly easy to get to with better hours. finding the correct building and floor a bit of a chalange but worth the effort

As always, do not trust the computer answer--call and ask at 800-223-5555. It may be you picked a different vendor by location at pick up, or are returning after 1300 on a Sat.

pebbles,

Last trip I rented through Autoeurope and dropped at the Foligno station. It's actually an Avis office and is right in the station building. It was about a 1.40 train to Termini from there. You might have time to stop and visit Assisi on the way.

Have decided to make a minor change, will send 2days in Siena and leave out of Pisa to London. Many Thanks to one and all for the great info. Now we must find a hotel in Pisa with a restaurant, as we will be flying from Phoenix to Heathrow to Pisa.
Ciao
