Driving with kids between Chamonix and Nice - where to overnight en route?

Bonjourno; We have one night in late March to spend somewhere between Chamonix and Nice and are looking for a good scenic route and funky place to stay in Italy. We are not really big city people so we aren't keen to do Turin but could be swayed. We are looking for a glimpse of Italy that would be fun for both teenagers and parents and easy to get to. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

As you come down the E25, hang a left to Biella - a bit of a detour, but not much, a neat small modern town, and the kids will love the aquapark Ondaland (if it opens in March - not sure about that) or the nearby Adventure Park in Veglio - see http://tinyurl.com/8gpqy4

Hi Mt - Are you looking for somewhere on the coast? Consider Finale Ligure.

Alternatively if you don't mind a short detour SE of Genova, you could consider Santa Margherita L., Camogli or Rapallo.

Hope this helps ...

Thanks. We are looking for a friendly family type small hotel in a village with good Italian ambience. We are focusing our search somewhere south of or near Turin so was wondering about places like Cuneo or Fossano or something in Piedmont area. The coast could work though. I will look up the areas south east of Genoa that were recommended but was hoping to stay west of there.

Genoa & SML are not between Nice & Chamonix - and the drive from SML through Genoa to Nice is a killer. Dozens & dozens of tunnels & lots of opportunities to make a wrong turn & find yourself on the streets in Genoa. I would never want to make any portion of that tunnel episode twice on two consecutive days - just for a few hours on the Italian coast.
