Driving Venice to Dubrovnik
I have 8 - 10 days to spend and would like to start in Venice and
drive to Dubrovnik and fly out of there. Any suggestions? Is it feasible? Where to stop along the way. Thanks, |
First you will have to find out if a rental car picked up in Venice can be dropped off in Dubrovnik. (You will probably instead want to ferry, bus, or train into Croatia and then get the car).
Then, go to viamichelin and determine the time and distance for the entire drive. Then you will be able to break the trip up into segments. Jadrolinija ferries leave from Rijeka and end in Dubrovnik, stopping at Split, Hvar, and Korcula. Time of year is pertinent also. |
Get the car in Croatia not Italy. Look at ferry options into Croatia to start.

I agree with the above. Even if you can rent the car and drop in Italy you will be hit with a very hefty drop-off fee. Your best bet would be to take a bus, ferry or train, although trains from Venice to Croatia will likely be very slow.
The scenery down the coast is gorgeous and driving yourself is certaily doable. Best wishes, Tracy |
Thanks. Planning trip for May. Didn't consider the drop-off problem. Have rented in Italy before and have driven into and out of Slavenia. MSV

Usually it's fine to drive the car into another country, as long as you bring it back to the country you originally rented it from. It's the drop-off in another country that can add hundreds of dollars to the rental price. And there are rental companies won't allow drop-offs, or even taking the rental car, in certain countries in Europe such as Croatia, so it's best to do a little research before you come up with your itinerary.
I usually use autoeurope.com, but in Croatia we used economycarrentals.com and it was significantly cheaper than any of the other car rental companies. When doing price comparisons you may want to check them out. Tracy |
