Driving Tuscany, Venice to Austria

After a weeks vacation in Siena, our family of 12 will be going their seperate ways in Italy. Four of us have chosen to drive from Siena to Venice and then onto Austria and back to Milan. Due to health of parents, it will necessary that we drive (when we can) instead of taking trains and other transportation. We'll spend 3 days in Venice and 3 somewhere in Austria (Prague?). Any feedback on distances and driving times would be appreciated. Since we fly out of Milan should we just stick to visiting one city? Perhaps we're trying to do too much.

Hi Rachel,

It is about 1/2 day's drive from Venice to Vienna, Austria. It is a full day's drive from Vienna to Milan.

If you want to visit Austria (or see the Alps), you may want to stick with the Western part of that country. There are lots of see near Innsbruck and Salzburg, which are closer to Milan and Venice. Vienna is much further East, and Prague in the Czech Republic is way up North.

I suggest western Austria only if you have just 3 days.

How about traveling from Venice back to Milan via the Dolomites and lake Como.I dont think you have enough time to drive to Austria and back in three days.We traveled from Lake Como to Bolzano via the high road which was a beautiful drive. The northern part to Italy is very much like Austria.

After doing some research I feel that we may be pushing it to travel to another destination. The drive from Venice to Milan via the lakes sounds nice. Any suggestions on a stopping point in between? Thanks for the helpful advice.
