Glad to agree with annhig's comment after your decision to stretch out Rome. DH and I just took taxis to airport. We stayed around the Piazza Navona which doesn't look too far from your hotel.

<i><font color=#555555>"I have had good luck not following that rule"</font></i>

I often have luck on my side, too, but I've learned to limit my chances for it turning bad. I know too many people who had to deal with flat tires on rental cars, because so many renters don't bother to check the pressure.

We experienced travelers tend to set our own rules. I don't need to be a taxi ride away from any airport: most of those choices are awful, but I will try to limit the drive to under two hours. With a rental car, I always plan to arrive at the airport three hours in advance of my flight, and I do whatever I can to avoid travel at rush hours. This plan has served me well for many years.

I think you made a smart call here. I would never drive from Puglia to Rome on the day of my departure flight.

Last May I booked a car service through Rome Shuttle Limousine from the Piazza della Rotonda to FCO for €45. I think the taxi rate at that time was €48.

"We experienced travelers tend to set our own rules"

You forgot to add the part about nevers assuming they should always apply to everybody else, too.

either sound fine, so long as the hotel service isn't stuck with set times which don't suit you.

I'm interested to find out where you are going in Puglia, jubi. It's a part of Italy that we've yet to get to, but that applies to a lot of the rest of it too - I want it all!!
