Driving to and parking in Monaco...
 

Greetings we'll be driving from Eze and would like to visit Monaco. I've heard driving in the area is a bit tricky. What route would you take and where to park? I do have a problem walking so would love to know more about the elevator situation. Thank you.

I don't recall the actual route we took into Monaco proper other than we followed the signs from the autoroute and had no problem. Once in Monaco, we parked in a very large (and conspicuous, well-signed) car park just about a block above the casino area. It had elevators and escalators from the lower areas to the street level.

You don't say at which Eze you are staying. If it's the old perched village you will take the Middle Corniche road to Monaco; if it's the water level Eze you will take the Bass Corniche road. If you are leaving from the water level Eze why not take the train instead of driving. It will cost about 5 euros roundtrip, the trains run about every 30 minutes, the station is in the heart of Monte Carlo, no parking fees or hassles and it will take you about 10 minutes.

Once you park your vehicle either where explained above, there are other parking buildings as you enter the town near the rock where the Palace is located. You cannot drive a car up the hill to rock, but can park below.

Assuming you have no trouble finding parking, note that Monaco is build on about seven-levels of hills. Plus the walk (or there is a bus) to get to the Palace on the rock.

If you park in the underground opposite the Casino you're on what I would consider the main walking level. From there, you'll find two-levels up to a main shopping street, and one or two further up where you will find residences.

From that main level, it's about 3-levels down to the beach, though along the boulevard one will find on opposite side of beach ad next to the Musee Automation (automated toys and puppets/dolls) is a lane that if you walk into it, near the very end are two large elevators that take you to the shopping level 2-levels above that main street.

Walking down is always easier than the reverse, but the stairs are wide and in good repair - so take it slowly if you can walk these at all. Monaco is very small, even smaller than Central Park in NYC and is easily walked in a short period of time, unless one can't.

You may only want to stay on the main street, grab a bite to eat across from the Hotel de Paris and simply "people watch" and if you want to go to the Palace, there is a bus to take you to the top and bring you down again. Hope this helps.

Do realize, that the perched village of Eze is just that, perched. The parking lot is at the level of the Moyene Cornich (middle). Here again you can't drive into the village. It's a walk up the ramp, rather steep, and walking through the village. If driving with someone else, maybe they can drive up the hill to Eze - there is some parking along the hill, if you find a spot maybe you can park here. If not, then after they drop you here, they can park down below. Hope this also helps.
