driving time between towns in Tuscany

We will be staying in San Quirico d'Orcia for 4 nights. We will have a car. Just wondering what the mileage/and/or driving time from there to other towns such as Sienna, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni would be..Do we need a day to do each area? Can we combine a few in one day?
Thanks for your help

Hello halcyon!
You're going to love San Quirico...be sure to shop at Dedalo which is my favorite linen store in the area. Back to your question...the best website I've found for distances/times between these lovely towns is www.viamichelin.com. Be sure to explore Pienza, Montepulciano, Montalcino as they are very close to San Quirico and charming. We drove this past spring from San Quirico to Siena for the day. I don't think you could try to do more than one town on the Siena day or San Gimignano (another one of my favorites!). The problem with exploring more than one town per day is that the afternoons shut down. You need to explore in the mornings, enjoy a long lunch, then everything is closed...hope this helps.

I like www.viamichelin.com for directions and driving distances.

From San Quirico to the Porta Romana in Siena, it's 45 mins. We always park our car there - look for a space when you see the giant "gate" (arch).

Do you have my italy itinerary that has detailed scenic drives and sites in the San Quirico area? If not, e-mail me at [email protected] & I'll send you one.

Stu Dudley is correct, it's exactly 45 mins to the Porta Romana of Siena, and that is the best place to leave your car. But from there to San Gimignano is a further 45 mins. Doesnt seem like it from the map, but it is. Monteriggioni a wonderful little town, but very small. You could linger there if you want to (there is a great 2 hour walk in the countryside there, take a look at the book "walking and eating in tuscany and umbria") or you can just stop for a quick look, it's up to you. I will give a full day to siena, it's really worth it.

Do you know how long it take to get from San Gimignano to Monteriggioni by car?

Thank you...
