driving through Spain
 

planning to drive from Madrid to Toledo, Granda, and Seville in late Oct.and trying to figure out how long to allow for each segment. Are all rds connecting those cities highways? Also, found lots of info on temperatures but haven't found anything yet about rainfall. does anyone know if last week of Oct/1st wk of Nov would be rainy? thanks.

It might be rainy but all those cities do not have a high average rainfall so I would pack some clothing for rain but would not worry overall. <BR> <BR>Those legs are the following: <BR> <BR>Madrid-Toledo: straight highway, no toll, just 77 kms. <BR> <BR>Toledo-Granada: you might want to stop twice, one in Almagro, close to Ciudad Real, homebirth of theatre in Spain and with one of the most beautiful main squares in Spain. ( Nice place to have lunch ). The other stop for a coffee/tea/drink could be the Parador of Sta Catalina in Jaen, from where you have outstanding views over the olive tree fields and the city of Jaen.All the roads are really good and pleasant to do, making a total of 410 kms. <BR> <BR>Granada-Sevilla: this segment is entirely a highway, no toll either. There are several interesting stops in case you would like to stop, as Antequera (El Torcal NAtural PArk, the megalith tombs, the castle ) or Osuna ( beautiful traditional architecture, outstanding church ) . Distance: 255 kms.

We did this trip two years ago in November, except that we drove from Madrid through Portugal, then back into Spain to Sevilla, Granada and Toledo. Driving in Spain is so easy. The roads are great, and there are many wonderful stops along the way. If you have a chance to see Gibraltar, that's definitely a worthwhile stop. You will have such a fabulous time!

Hi Debbie and those planning to drive in Spain, <BR> <BR>It is a wonderful experience. However this year we had a nasty experience <BR>regarding the speed limit. <BR>We were leaving Leon towards <BR>Picos de Europa and for a little while we took a National route, leaving LEon , it was a nice Sunday morning, the signs marked 80 kms speed limit, but, out of the blue moon, a few houses appeared at the sides of the route and signs abruptly lowering the speed limit to 60, then 50 this in a few meters. <BR>You are guessing right the Guardia Civil was there somewhere and hit us with a very expensive ticket. <BR>We told them that we were tourist, that we loved Spain, that we haven t seen the signs which in a way was true, ...no way. We had to pay. <BR>So pay attention to those red and white signs. Buen viaje. <BR>

Yes, it is common knowledge in Spain that the lower speed limits posted on entering small towns must be obeyed, since there is always a chance that the traffic police are monitoring speeds. <BR>Also never attempt to bribe a Guardia Civil !!! <BR>
