Driving route advice

My wife and I will be traveling to Europe in early May. We will have a day drive from Lauterbrunnen to Reutte, and would like to find a scenic route. We aren't to concerned about the time, as long as it can be done in a day. I have driven in Switzerland once before and am comfortable witht he passes. My wife has never been and I remember the drives over the mountain passes as being spectacular.

Thank you, and advice you have would be great!

hausfrau posted a great trip report on her latest tour of the Alps.
Maybe you find some ideas there:

For Cowboy1968,

Won't the passes be closed in May? hausfrau's tour was in August I think.

svandav.. Yes, you are right! I did not pay enough attention to the OP.

Early May can be tricky, yet it will depend on the pass and its elevation. Most mountain passes, like Klausenpass or Oberalppass, which could be interesting for the OP's trip, have road closures until May, unfortunately.

When you check out potential routes on viamichelin.com , look for road closure remarks, e.g. 10-5 (October through May).

Thanks for the good advice. I hadn't realized that many passes would still be closed. I will check out the Michelin website.

Hi T,

At the Michelin site, change "recommended" to "discovery".

Where do you find road closure notes? Last time I drove through Switzerland I drove over Olberpass and was hoping to take that route again. We will be driving on May 17th.

Micelin is recommending a route through Luzern and Vaduz. Do you know if that is very scenic?
