Driving or TGV to south of France ?
I'll be in France next spring so now is planning time. In the past I've taken the TGV to
Hyeres and rented a car, but as I have 9 or 10 days, I'm thinking of looping the country,
Paris to the Luberon over to the Cévennes National Park and perhaps up to Britany/Normandy and back to Paris. Per google maps, this is about a 31 hour drive (2,560 kilometers), or around 3 hours of driving each day. It seems like a good idea but I'd like to hear from more experienced travelers or other points of view. Thanks

I would take the TGV to Lyon and begin the drive there. The Cévennes are absolutely lovely. You could head down to the Lubéron after that, then take the TGV back to Paris and do another loop around Normandy/Brittany. The middle of the country, with some exceptions, isn't all that wonderful for driving. Of course if you wanted to do a bigger loop that involved the Languedoc, Dordogne, Atlantic coast south of Brittany, etc., that'd be wonderful - but you'd need more than 9 or 10 days for that.

I certainly agree with StCirq. You can cut down a lot of your driving by using the TGV for the bulk of the north-south-north traveling. But I'd take the TGV all the way to Avignon and start from there. The drive along the autoroute south from Lyon to Orange isn't all that thrilling either...

Hi FF,
I agree with StC.
You don't have to follow the E15.
Take Lyon --> Laragne-Montegin --> Gorges de Nesque --> Noves --> Avignon 5:30 hr
We very much enjoyed staying at the Cadran Solaire near Avignon.
