Driving Munich to Salzburg in winter

We will be driving from Munich to Salzburg at the begining of December this year. We will be leaving Munich airport around 6pm I suppose. I have got the directions from Mappy. Would any one be able to tell me what the road is like and whether there is likely to be snow or ice on the road. This may sound like a very silly question, but how would we know if there was ice on the road by the way? We need to drive right into the centre of Salzburg as we will be staying at the Goldene Ente. Any advice about the route, etc would be most welcome.

No worries, it's a highly frequented autobahn always kept in the best possible condition. If it's below zero and wet, there may be ice, but given the number of cars, snow ploughs and the salt it's rather unlikely there will be any problems.

Salzburg is a small town.
