Driving Milan to Venice

Hi everyone, has anyone been game enough to drive from Milan to Venice? We arrive at Melpansa airport approximate 16.25 - We are 4 Ozzies who have never driven in Italy. Any ideas on cost & where to hire from - or will we stick to taking the train from Milan to Venice as originally planned. We will be in Italy in October Any suggestions welcomed, Maree

With Venice as your destination, I would train.
#1) with 4 adults and luggage, the rental car that you get will have to bigger. That may eat into your calculated savings.
#2) When staying in Venice, rental cars are like excess baggage. You have to pay by the day to store a rental car that you are not using.
#3) Taking on a 4 hour drive after a god knows how long flight, can be a bit too much (too tired). Add to that left hand drive versus right hand drive issues.

thanks Big_Red, your comments seem to echo those of just about everyone I have spoken to her in Australia. I think we will stick to the train, sit back & relax.

The train is a good choice for your group. Just to be clear . . .

From Malpensa Airport, take the express bus to Milano Centrale train station. Trains to Venice depart from Milano Centrale.

(The Malpensa airport train goes to a different station in Milan.)

Hello maree, taking the train to Venice is the safest and easiest way for your group. We have driven from Milan to Venice several times but that was after staying in Milan and getting over jetlag after flying from the westcoast of the US.

Here is the website for the Malpensa express bus that ellenem referred to. A clean and efficient bus service. Luggage goes in the compartments under the bus.

Have a lovely trip in beautiful Italy!

Bus from Malpensa to Milano Centrale is 8 Euros per person. Make sure you are on to Milano CENTRALE, not to the Cadorna Station.
