Driving Map for Tuscany
 

Hi again! Is there a "best" map used for driving in the Tuscany area? And should it be purchased in Italy rather than here?
Picking car up at Orvieto and dropping off in Florence--thankfully on a "quiet" Sunday.

the michelin map books are very good. you can get them on amazon.com
for on line maps try mappy.com, viamichelin.com, map24.com, maps.google.com

Hi Retired - I highly recommend the 'Touring Club Italiano' regional maps - I think they're the best.

I also recommend the Touring Club Italiano maps. We can buy them here in the UK, so you could probably order one from your local bookshop ?

While you're around, Steve - we'll be driving in Tuscany this year for the first time in ages - do you think my TCI map purchased in 1989 will still be OK or should I buy a new one ? I don't imagine much has changed, has it ? :-)

I get them in a bookshop in Rome. Any good bookshop sells them.

But you should be able to order them in your local bookshop - or online - if you prefer to get them before leaving.

Hi Caroline - I'm still using some that are at least 10 years old. I don't think you should have a problem with yours ;)

Thanks for the advice on the driving maps and where to order them. I like having the maps way ahead of time so we can study them and be familar with an area. That way I spend less time looking at the map when we're actually on the road.

we had a similar quandry last year - our map of Tuscany was over 20 years old.

We solved it by staying in Florence and not hiring a car! but there do seem to be some new motorways in the area which may not be on your old map. why not have a look on the internet at the roads in the area you're going to and see how it compares?
