driving map for Croatia and BiH
 

Thanks to everyone who provided such valuable feedback on my other post! Another quick question for you: what map do you recommend we purchase prior to our trip? We will be renting a car in Dubrovnik and driving to Mostar (via Ston and Mali Ston), with stops in Pocitelj and Blagaj, and then returning the car in Trogir. We love maps and want a good one, both for driving and for general geographic edification. :)

Should have mentioned that I am looking at the Cartographia's Crotia Slovenia map on amazon. Open to other suggestions! Thanks.

We have some Michelin maps and now, since living in Europe, have a growing collection of Freytag & Berndt maps. In general we prefer Freytag & Berndt maps because although they have a little less detail than the Michelin maps, they are much easier to manipulate in a vehicle and, to us, are prettier to look at overall.

We have the Freytag & Berndt map that includes Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, BiH, Montenegro and Macedonia. The map scale is 1:600.000, which doesn't seem all that detailed at first. Then again, for your proposed trip, there aren't that many roads through the area to begin with! Hope this helps.

buy the maps at the local gas stations!

Auto Karte (purple colour with red stripes) are available at practically all gas stations in Croatia and are pretty good scale; 1:300 000.

I've driven a fair amount in BiH and Croatia, and use the Freytag & Berndt map. I like the 1:600 000 scale.

In my most recent trip through Croatia, BiH, and Serbia, I used two good maps:

For detailed maps, we really like the Freytag&Berndt series. In Bosnia, we used the VERY detailed 1:200 000 scale which covers almost anything you could want. Downside is that it is so big and so detailed that you really need to fold it before getting in the car as it is about 2 x 2 meters in size and covers both sides. Finally, we found the locally produced maps found in service stations not nearly as good as these two.
