driving in Tuscany

Are there any women out there who have traveled around Tuscany by car alone? Is there any reason why I shouldn't do it? I'm not a sissy, but I'm not stupid, either.
Thanks for your input.

'twer me, I would pick a spot with good bus or train connections. I am not a good driver, and I dont enjoy driving. But if you are the opposite, I think Tuscany is safe and it wouldn't be all that hard to do.

Driven all over Tuscany. Many roads no worse than Colorado, although there were roads in the Apennines and Apuans that set my teeth chattering. But that had nothing to do with being female-more to do with not liking roads without guard rails. Most of Tuscany is full of regular people. You have a problem, they help.

ItalyAgain, my hands turned blue clutching the door handle during a drive through the Alpe Apuanne! What a scare!

Pspen: Most roads in Tuscany are nicely rolling hills, with plenty of straightaways. There is some tricky driving in and out of hill towns, but it really isn't all that challenging.

Pspen, I'm about to do the same thing although I'll have my 21-year old daughter with me who is a great navigator. Initially, I was not going to rent a car for this trip, but after further research and much consideration, I'm picking up a car in Rome on the way out of town and I'm going to do it. Current plan is to travel in Tuscany, drive to CT, and then drive to Venice and drop off the car.

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds as though it shouldn't be a problem.
