driving in scotland and ireland

while my wife and i have driven a couple of times in England, we have not driven in the other two countries. Can someone give us some recommended driving tours out of edinburgh and dublin perhaps with some train links to cut down on driving time and get us further out from the city centers. Also any driver ed refresher tips would be appreciated.

I would suggest leaving Edinburgh and heading north east via Kircaldy staying on the coastal route through the east neuk of fife to Anstruther, Crail and then to St. Andrews - guessing it will take 2-3 hours. Its a lovely scenic drive, particularly recommend stopping at Crail and wandering down to the famous harbour via a hot drink outside at the fishermans cottage gallery - amazing views!!! Lots of lovely qaint shops, beautiful beaches and great restaurants in St. Andrews not to mention the golf and Abbey!!

As for Dublin, you really cant go wrong which ever direction you head - enjoy!
