Driving in Scotland

How long will it take me to drive from Ullapool to Edinburgh?

Just under 4 hours if you stick to the main roads (A835 -> A9 -> M90/A90) and don't make any long stops along the way.

I'd say closer to 5.5 hours myself. It is over 200 miles -- even the AA route planner suggests 4 hrs 41 mins. For visitors/newbies one usually needs to add at least 25%.

And there aren't any accidents. All day if there are. Much of this road is in wildish country with few alternatives if it is blocked for any reason. Ask me how I know this.

Good point (curious minds want to know :) )

But basically -- it is pretty much an all day drive if you stop anywhere at all.

Thanks everyone. I think we will change our itinerary to be closer to Edinburgh and not chance a full days drive form Ullapool. Much appreciated!

OK. I'll bite. How do you know that.
