driving in Greece
We are planning to drive into Athens from the airport and after spending 2 days in Athens we will be driving to Kardamyli, I'm looking for directions or a good road map written in English
|
Consider a GPS navigation unit. My daughter-in-law arrived with one with both USA and Europe features. It works! We toured Łódź, Polska with it. It uses English.
|
We ordered some excellent maps from www.road.gr. They arrived quickly with a rather low cost for shipping them to us from Greece. We were glad we had them as the maps given out by the rental car agancies were terrible.

Take a taxi from the airport to Athens. Pardon my bluntness but it is stupid to rent a car at the airport and drive into that congested city and then pay for parking. Rent your car on the morning of your departure. I'm looking for . . . a good road map written in English That is probably the last thing you want. A problem with some maps of Greece is that they identify streets in the Latin alphabet. Outside Athens guess what is on the road signs, if any? Greek alphabet. I would spend more than two days in Athens. I've already done a couple of weeks there on different trips. |
The www.road.gr maps will use both English and Greek alphabets. Study the Greek alphabet before your trip as often the road signs are only in Greek characters.

We spent 3 weeks in Greece and used Michelin red map # 737. Easy to follow with both English and Greek. We put in about 2000 miles during the trip in 2005. |
I agree- you do NOT want a car in Athens. Rent it and leave the city.
