Hi Turnip: I read your post from the CR and found it very enlightening and entertaining! Sounds like we'll be renting a car as we will have the freedom to move around at the pace we want.

Hi Prlch: Thanks for the information. I think what we'll do is rent a car when we are leaving Prague so I don't have to deal with a car while there. That way I only have to find my way out of town!

We've driven around the CR a few times, and across the border in and out of Germany too. The only times it gets tricky, as others have said, is driving around Prague. Apart from Prague it is an absolute doddle (assuming you are from a country that drives on the right - obviously there is the additional issue there if that is new to you)
