I'm in total agreement with Weber -- scariest ride I ever had was the road from Lanjaron to Capileira. No guardrails, vertical drop, no shoulder, lots of truck traffic. The first time I was on it, my brother-in-law was driving (too fast) and I tried switching to the inside back passenger seat; we still had to turn back. Second time (different trip), I drove. Much better (control issues?) but still scary. By the 3rd time (yet another trip), it was scary but manageable. Not for the faint of heart, however.

Wow! Thanks so much for all of these specifics. I've heard about yu, Maribel! and appreciate yur weighing in. There's a mountain here in southern California which is not all that scary, but I still hold my breath, so I don't want to repeat that.

Question: The map I have is the Michelin book, scale 1:400,00, and the only number I see is on the back cover, which says 01460-XB. Is this a book form of the one you recommend, and if not, where would I buy the preferred one? Based on our ease in France and difficulty in Italy with maps, I really need a good one.

Also - I can see that getting out of Granada from the train station looks fairly easy (three turns and then the freeway). Into Seville, to the train station on Kansas City Blvd, looks to be a straight shot...but if you recommend dropping at the airport, I'll switch over right away.

Thanks again everyone!

In Seville, I did the opposite in picking up a car at Santa Justa. Very easy direct route onto the autovia. I imagine the reverse would be true but have learned the hard way that this is not necessarily so!

And if you are driving to Arcos de la Frontera from Ronda and you love anything in leather, don't miss Ubrique. It was *ahem* the White Villages highlight for a couple of female companions...

thanks.

Michelin map -- gas stations have them.

For maps and atlases BEFORE you depart, in the USA, try Globe Corner Bookstore on the net.

Just back from a short trip in the White Villages area. Done before yesterday Ronda-->Ubrique-->El Bosque-->Grazalema-->Ronda. Roads were perfectly safe and in good condition. In fact, they were cleaning weeds from the sides. Ubrique I recomend not getting in with the car, may get lost. Prices you may find similar in Ronda.
