Driving from Valencia to BCN
I will be driving from Valencia to Barcelona next week. Any "not miss" sights along the way? Or suggestions of good scenic roads & stops along the way? Wineries? Beaches?
|
In April 2007 we rented a house in Alcossebre, midway between the two cities. Very nice little beach town. We enjoyed a day trip to Peniscola to visit the very charming seaside castle. That would be a good stop. We did visit an art museum while in Castellon (name escapes me), a nice stop but nothing worth a special trip. Other than that, not much to recommend (that we uncovered, at least!)

North, very ear Valencia is Sagunot, Roman ruins. Then at Vall d'Uxó are the Coves de San Josep, the longest navigatable caves. The boat ride through them is quite interesting.
Peñiscola has been mentioned. But otherwise this route is the best one for taking the euromed train with NO hassles at either end. Unless you need your car and cannot drop off in Valencia and pick up another after you finish Barcelona.. and UNLESS you are stopping along the way to do something, the train is great. You could also visit the wineries and cava bodega before Barcelona. Goolge " Cordoniu". Maribel in her guides also talks about these which are south of Barcelona. Sitges is a nice stop on way to Barcelona also after the wineries. |
Thanks!

Make that "Sagunto". You would never find it otherwise with my typo!
