Driving from Siena to Florence -- Places to Stop on the Way?
I will be driving from Siena to the Florence in mid-September. Have the full day to explore the route. Plan on taking the N222 through the Chianti region. If I were to pick a couple of places to stop on the way what you recommend? There appear to be many nice towns....Castellina, Radda, Greve? I suspect there are many smaller villages that offer great vistas or perhaps a great drive off N222 that I may not have seen reviewing other posts. Lastly, interested in any vineyards along the way for a stop as well. Thank you.

I stopped in San Gimignano for a number of hours between Florence and Sienna.

On the Chiantigiana, Rt. 22, I recommend you visit Castellina, Radda, and Panzano. We spent a week in Panzano and loved the small town. We stayed in Castellina on two earlier visits. Beautiful area. Greve is a little larger and worth a stop too.it's a beautiful drive. You can pick up winery guides at the tourist offices.

Thanks for the replies, read some good things on Panzano.....will put it on the list of stops.

Monteriggioni - a really cool very small walled hilltop fortress town right off the highway. Probably the quickest enroute stop you could make.
