Driving from Rome-Gaeta-Sorrento
My family is leaving for our second trip to Italy a week from today. We are 3 days in Rome, 1 in Gaeta, 3 in Sorrento, then 4 in husband's hometown of Pietrelcina. My husband does speak the language. Right now we are renting a car in Rome and driving the rest of the way. Reading here I am concerened, but we have to get to Gaeta to see family. Is there a place in Sorrento to rent a car, and should we drive at all? If not how do we get to Gaeta then on to Sorrento? I want him to be able to enjoy this as well.
Any advise would be helpful. |
Hi Mary - Much better title :) Hopefully others will contribute now ...
Copied & pasted from your other thread - You could drive to Gaeta - but you can easily get there by public transport if you prefer. There are frequent fast trains from Roma Termini to FORMIA - from where there are connecting buses to Gaeta. There are a number of car hire companies in Sorrento - Hertz, Avis etc. If you prefer to be driven, the following are limo companies based in Sorrento: www.tourofitaly.com www.francescomarrapese.com www.cuomonet.it www.seesorrento.com www.sorrento.it It's not possible to see Capri by night without staying (- unless you arrange a private water taxi) - as the last ferry currently leaves Capri for Sorrento at 19.00. [The only other way to leave Capri later would be to catch a later ferry/hydrofoil to Naples - then return to Sorrento by train. Rather inconvenient ] There is a left luggage store at the entrance to Pompeii, so stopping there en route to Sorrento is a possibility. Hope this helps ... Steve |
Hi M,
This is not your first visit. Your husband speaks Italian. It appears to be a straightforward route from Rome to Gaeta - about 2 hr on main roads. I wouldn't fret. ((I)) |
