driving from prague to vienna

we will be travelling in July from prague to vienna. We cannot decide whether to take the train or to rent a car and drive. Any suggestions? What are the highways like?

The highways are fine, but where will you go after Vienna? It may be prohibitively expensive to rent a Czech car and plan to return it in Austria.

Best wishes,

Rex

I'm going to Prague in April and taking the 5 hour train to Vienna. Cost oneway is about $50 for 2nd class, $75 for 1st.
I haven't done any research yet on sights to see. I'd be interested to hear what you are planning.

Idah,
I will be taking the same route.
What train are you taking for $50.00?

Check out the Prague (or is it Czech) excursion pass from Raileurope.com - - it's one actual good deal from RailEurope, presumably subsidized by the Czech railways (or government - - are they one and the same?) to get people to come to the CR. You get one ride into the country and one ride out, for a very low price. Don't have to go out the same way you came in.

idah,
We are taking the same route in April but I hadn't found the price yet. What website did you use to find prices?
Thanks
