Driving from Portovenere to south of Siena, advise please.

We had thought to spend 5 or 6 hours in Florence on the way to La Baganaia south of Siena. We have stayed in Florence before. We have now thought that we might make a right turn after Pisa and go on some of the smaller roads to get to our destination. Does anyone have any suggestions on a route and possible places of interest on the way.

try the michelin website -www.viamichelin.com and put in the option form the scenic route. or buy a map and put in a few choices under the places to see option. This should give you a start.

Absolutely ! I often suggest going south as far as S-68 and then over to Volterra--one of my favorite Etruscan hill towns. Then, on to Monteriggioni via Colle and then by-pass Siena. Forget Florence--you do not want to drive in that city. Have fun and buy some alabaster.

Thanks Bob, we have visited Volterra on a previous visit and found it to be a wonderful spot ! and the spouse made me cart an albaster vase around for 4 weeks ! I suppose I am looking for something a bit different .
