Driving from Munich to Selva di Val Gardena
Hello,
We will arrive in Munich by plane and we intend to rent a car there and drive to Selva di Val Gardena. Can anyone tell me if it is an "easy drive" or do we need chains, etc ? I am from a warm place and not used to drive on the snow. So.... driving with chains in narrow roads really scares me ! :) Thanks a LOT for your advice |
Hi,
What month are you planning on traveling? From Munich (or Munich airport) follow signs to Innsbruck, the Brenner Pass (really a multi lane highway) to Chiusa/Klausen. This is where you will get off the highway for Val Gardena/Gröden. This road is a bit steep in places but rather a short drive. Maybe someone knows another way. The Dolomites are spectacular though! Hi Pja1,
Thanks for your email. We will travel during the end of January. After Chiusa do we need chains? I read there is a bus from Munich airport. I guess that if we have a car it will allow us to some sightseeing after skiing Selva. Hope someone can give me more information about it. Yes, Selva looks wonderful. I travel to Europe every year to ski but never been to Selva. I am dreaming with it! Cecilia |
Hi Cecilia,
I can't advise about conditions in January as we've traveled mostly in October. I'm sure Steve James or someone else will be along with a helpful post soon. Paul |
Hi Cecilia - There is a direct bus from Munich airport to Val Gardena on weekends. On other days, train to Brixen/Bressanone, then bus to Selva is another option.
Otherwise it's a straightforward motorway drive to Chiusa as Paul says. From Chiusa it's a half-hour drive up Val Gardena to Selva. You may or may not need chains for this last part, depending on conditions on the day (- but I believe it's obligatory to carry them). Hope this helps ... Steve |
