Driving from Milan to Zermatt

Anyone know how the driving condition from Milan to Zermatt this week? I have to decide whether to drive, take train or hire a direct transfer. I am a ok driver but never driven on snow. Any advice?

Hi zzsimon,

Well. You cannot drive "to" Zermatt but only to Täsch, where you park the car and take the train in. Either you will pay a lot for the rental while it sits in the parking lot in Täsch, or you will incur huge drop-off fees (like hundreds of Euro) to rent the car in one country and leave it in another.

I think the logical choice is the train.

Have fun as you plan!

From Milan city center, the train is faster and more comfortable (only 1 train change at Brig).
From Malpensa airport, the car is usually faster.
I usually take a taxi from MXP to Gallarate and go on by train; but all depends on the arrival time of the plane and the train timetable.
The road over the Simplon Pass (6500ft) is actually dry, but snowfall cannot be excluded in the next days. The weather forecast isn't clear about that.
There is a car shuttle through the Simplon Tunnel at an altitude of some 2000 ft, operated by Swiss railways.
But this will not be a big help if there is snow or black ice on the road from Stalden to Zermatt.
