Driving from Malaga to Barcelona

We will be driving from Malaga to Barcelona in Feb, looking at one or two overnights on the road. Which itinerary would you propose? Good places to plan on spending the night?

If we had to drive straight, which would be the best route and how many hours would it take? Thank you!
Alternative: driving from Granada to Barcelona. Any suggestions for an overnight in Murcia? Thanks.

It's a long way, so you'll be looking at a fairly direct route.

Quickest way is up NIV to Madrid then NII to Barcelona, must be about 800 miles, so will take 12hours. Near these motorways, good places to stay would be Consuegra or Toledo (South of Madrid), or Siguenza (NE of Madrid).

Alternate prettier but probably slower route via the Med Coast - all pretty nice but pretty built up. Should be warmer that way in Feb

We did that one time--just one overnite--and stayed in Peniscola on the Med. Loved the village--check it out.

Thanks Andrew and Bob. If we do it with just one overnight, Toledo or Peniscola sound good.

What if we made it with two overnights??
