Driving from Izmir to Istanbul

How long would it take to drive between the two cities? We're trying to figure out if we should fly to Izmir and then drive back.
TIA

By taking the most direct route (Balikesir-Bursa) my estimate is that one should be able to drive it in 7 hours nonstop.

We drove the route along the coast, stopping for nights in Bergama, Canakkale and Bursa. According to my notes, the integrated driving time on this route would total 10:30 hours.

Paulo

You don't say when you're trip is so I'll tell you what we did. We took the ferry from Canakkale across to the Europe side, then took the drive right up the coast to Istanbul - was wonderful - fields and field of sunflowers, but then we hit what's call a "stabilized road" - in Turkey - that's a dirt road - this one - one lane cut out of the side of the mountain - was a little scary but incredible views. Don't remember how long it took but was nowhere near 10 hours! :-)

Depends on the route you take
if you go via Canakkale it is lomger takes 10 hours.
If you take Bursa route and take the ferry from Yalova to Istanbul
(car Ferry)
the trip will be around 8 hours.
regards
Nejat Incedogan
Ephesus
