Driving from Hendaye to Le Vieux Logis

We are trying to decide if we should rent a car in Hendaye (coming from San Sebastian) and drive up to Dordogne region or take the train to Bordeaux or Libourne and rent the car there. We will be traveling on Saturday, May 14. We will probably be dropping it in Brive before we go on to Paris. Any thoughts?

Also, would love suggestions for a good lunch place (or picnic spot) on the drive.

Which route are you driving?

Rent the car in Hendaye, stop in Labastide d'Armagnac, which, as the name suggests, has a nice square (a bastide) and a good Armagnac store.

StCirq, not sure, looks like there is a quicker way up towards Bordeaux and then cutting over, but was wondering if there was a more scenic way. We are leaning towards driving just so we don't have to make two trains-would rather just go up to Hendaye and throw luggage in car and drive right to the hotel.

Michael, thanks for the suggestion. Looks like a great spot to stop.
