Driving from Fetihye to Antalya

Hi,
I am wondering what the drive is like from Fetihye to Antalya in relation to the quality of the roads.

Should we take a bus or drive? My preference would be to drive, but there seems to be a lot of comment about not driving in Turkey - with narrow roads, no barriers and lots of tourist buses.

Any feedback from travellers who have driven this route (and suggestions of where to stay - we have seven days) would be much appreciated.

Thanks

We drove this route late April and into May and the main roads and secondary roads are great. No different than elsewhere in Europe. Roadsigns for towns, tourist sites are well marked. Having your own car gives you the freedom to stop at a roadside beaches, restaurants, photo ops,and towns exploring anywhere you choose and go at your own pace. The drive is beautiful. The pace is less hectic away from major cities. I did not find Antalya that intimidating either as well marked. Go for it. If I were to go back to Turkey it is the coastal areas I would return to with some time still in Istanbul. I loved Cappadocia too but saw alot there already. Just hoping all the political unrest of the moment can be resolved quickly.

Drove it three years ago and it was fine. I did fine Antalya a bit nerve wracking, and was glad when the hotel informed me that the rental agency would come there and pick up the car.

I agree -- roads on that route are excellent. No problems with driving. Lots of interesting places along the way. We based in Kas, a nice, low-key town that we really enjoyed.

The drive from Fethiye along the coast to Antalya is beautiful. Definitely do it & dont hesitate. It will give you the freedom to stop along the way - Kaputas Beach - beautiful...detour to Patara if you wanted to, Saklikent Gorge, Kas, Demre, Olympos, Cirali - the list goes on. Ive driven this route quite a few times & even recently. No problem

Thankyou everyone for the feedback. That makes me feel very comfortable about the driving. At this stage we are staying four nights in Fetihye (catching our breath after two busy days/nights going from Izmir to Pamukkale to Fetihye) and then one night in Kas and one or two nights in Cirali before flying to Istanbul. Worried I might be trying to fit too much in but can't bring myself to miss out on these gorgeous places....
