Driving from Delphi to Nafplion
We will be driving from Delphi to Nafplion and I was wondering if there was any particular reason to go the long way west, around the Golf of Corinth. We will be coming back across the Corinth canal on our way back to Athens. Googles maps indicates that it would add an extra 40 minutes to the drive.

The highway from Corinth to Patras is under construction right now, i would totally avoid it.
As an alternative you can use the old coastal road that is also scenic as you pass through villages and orchards or you can drive to Delphi via Athens. |
We will be traveling in late June, I imagine still under construction? What is the coastal road you refer to? Again, we are trying to get from Delphi to Naflion.
Thank you |
From Delphi you will have to drive to the Rio - Antirio bridge.
From there you have 2 options 1. E 65, which is under constructions, and it will be for the next 2 years 2. The old coastal road that connects Patra with Corinth. From Corinth you will follow the motorway to Tripolis -Kalamata ( A 7) Have a look at Google Maps and you will see that road running parallely on the coast to E 65. |
Sure enough, looks like it is "old road" 8, or Palea EO Korinthou. Do you have any idea how long that would take versus going though Thiva and down to Elefsina and through Corinth?
|
If you take this route you should calculate about 2 hours from Delphi to Elefsina or about 4 hours to Nafplio.
Just keep in mind that between Livadia and Thiva there might be heavy traffic with trucks, on a narrow road. I personally always take the motorway to Athens>> Corinth>>Tripolis which is much faster. ( A1- A6 - A8 - A7 ) |
Thank you for the tip. Approximately how long does the motorway route take?
|
Depending on your driving style, i would say 3 hours. :)

Thanks Clausar!
