Driving from Cochem to Munich - suggestions for mid day stops?

We will be driving from Cochem to Munich on a Saturday in late May. It is a 5 hour drive without stops so we want to meander our way their a bit. Any suggestions for stops on the way? We will be coming back via the Romantic Road and Rothenburg about a week later.

I mapquested the trip and it showed a route that was mostly Autobahns so you are intentionally skirting the towns a villages. Not exactly in the middle but Ulm has an outstanding cathedral (one of the tallest in Germany, maybe Europe) It might make a nice stop.

If you take a more northerly route, you will go fairly close to Wurzburg, Nuremburg, and Bamberg - all with beautiful old towns. A southern route would go through Heidelburg and Ulm, as mentioned above.

If you go through Heidelburg that would be a great spot for a stop.

Excellent suggestions above. Let me add a couple more:

Bad Wimpfen (much touted here by the always helpful bettyk) and Schwabisch Hall.

Ah, Rufus beat me to it. Both Bad Wimpfen (about an hour from Heidelberg) and Schwaebisch Hall would make good stops, with my preference always being to Bad Wimpfen. It's a small, beautiful town that sits above the Neckar River with many lovely half timbered buildings and old foritifications dating from around 1200. I highly recommend it.
