Driving from Chinon to Sarlat

During my upcoming trip to France we are driving from Chinon to Sarlat. I haven't decided if and where we break up the day. I know we could go to Limoge but I don't think I want to stop in a city. I am looking for a point of interest in a small town or even a picturesque spot to sit and eat. Any suggestions?

It's a long, dull drive. You could stop in Poitiers, of course, as that's a lovely place, but it's also a city and it's only about 1/3 of the way. I can't think of a picturesque place along the logical route, though there may be some. My best suggestion would be to stop and see Oradour-sur-Glane, which could hardly be called picturesque but would break up the route nicely and afford you a huge measure of history. There are a couple of hotels and restaurants in the small new part of the town.

StCirq - Thanks for the reminder, I read about Oradour-sur-Glane when I was researching this trip but somehow my notes were "lost in the shuffle".

If you are just looking to break up the drive for lunch, we had a lovely meal in Nanteuil-en-Vallée

It is a small attractive village.
