Driving from Cannes to Venice

My family and I are thinking of driving from Cannes to Venice in late August. We can't seem to find a direct flight, so rather than sitting arount the airport we thought we'd drive. Is this a scenic drive? How long will it take us?
Thanks for the feedback.

I don't know how long it will take you, but you can get a pretty good idea by using www.mappy.com (always add a bit to the time it gives you).

I trust you aware that if you rent a car in one country and drop it off in another, you will likely pay a rather hefty dropoff charge. The tolls for that trip are also going to be significant, assuming you're planning on using the highways.
Have you looked into trains?

Take the train from Cannes to Nice, then onward to San Remo (less than an hour from Nice). From there, you can rent an Italin car to take you onward.

Having said that - - no, it is not a particularly scenic drive.

But it's a bit much to do all in one shot by train also. I'd recommend taking in some of the neat destinations along the way - - Milan (its environs are as good as the city itself - - Lake Como area, Monza, Pavia, Bergamo); Verona and the Lake Garda area (Sirmione, Trento, Bassano del Grappa) - - just to name two, if you're going to bother with having a car.

Best wishes,

Rex

Not to turn you away from driving all the way, but you could drive the 20 or so miles from Cannes to Nice, and then catch a non-stop to Venice from there with Air Littoral.
There are 2 daily flights at 08:30 and 16:25, plus a 5x weekly flight at 13:05.

Just thought it'd be a good idea if you want to see more of Venice.
