Driving from Bayeux to Versailles..and hotels in Versailles
 
Hello..anyone driven from Bayeux to Versailles? Is there a must see on the way? How long does it take and is there a special route we should take? Also; need hotel info for Versailles; decent place where we can enjoy our last morning in France with a nice cafe close by.We will then tour the gardens and palace; can anyone give me an idea of how long the palace might take and a not to miss spot in the gardens..thanx...Patty

We did that drive via autoroute in about 2 1/2 hours. If you want to see an alternate route, go to this website:http://www2.iti.fr/$www-N435YA7t7D_f$BscQU0DdHLKFQM-AAAmBw.iti$/Accueil/accueil.hei?direct=accueil <BR>put in bayeux and versailles, and choose itineraire sans peage...see what cities/towns pop up. There are lots of pretty little towns in Normandy, if you'd like to take the scenic route. <BR>Sorry, can't help you on hotels in Versailles...

Patty, I can think of two hotels located not far from the castle (walking distance) in Versailles. These are The Versailles hotel or Residence du Berry hotel. They are the mid range (3 stars). Another excellent place but expensive is the Trianon Palace hotel giving on the Versailles gardens. You can check on the Westin website for any specials they may offer at the time of your stay. The whole visit of Versailles castle and gardens should take you at least three hours. It also depends on the number of visitors standing in line to get a ticket. <BR>
