Driving from Barcelona to Montpellier

We're planning to drive from Barcelona Spain to Montpellier France. Anyone know what the traffic is like on a Saturday in July during the day?

We're trying to decide if it would be better to take a train instead.

In July almost all the traffic will be headed toward Spain as those northern vacationers seek the sun...not toward France.

We drove from the Barcelona airport on a weekday in July. The traffic was heavy for about half an hour and then it was smooth sailing to Montpellier, past sunflower fields. We were jetlagged, but had no problems. I think the drive was about 3 hours.

Hi

just to confirm that 3 hours is about right.

Since the advent of automatic cameras I've slowed down a bit, but I used to do it in 2h45m.
