Driving from Austria to Croatia

Has anyone driven from Austria to Slovenia and Croatia? I am thinking about doing this in April at the end of a visit to Austria.

I'm interested in the road situation, particularly along the coast. Or would I be better to leave the car in northern Croatia and take a week on a boat. So, if it's a boat does anyone have a website or other information?

We drove Croatia last August and had no trouble whatsoever. The roads were in good condition and gas was plentiful..Great country!

I did this drive five years ago and actually had a good time driving to Austria and then back through Slovenia and then Croatia. It is a nice drive through lots of mountain roads. Service stations were plentiful along the route. Well worth it.
Good Luck

I assume you will head south into Slovenia from Villach or Klagenfurt, then head for the coast around Rijeka. The coastal road is very scenic and is a good road, but it has a lot of twists and turns because it literally follows around all the coastal inlets for most of the way to Dubrovnik. In Slovenia, everyone stops at Bled, which is lovely, but Ljubljana is also a nice city. Rijeka is nice, but Opatija is even nicer if you can stop there for a rest or just to look around. You will find most of the roads in Croatia to be in good condition. Enjoy your drive. One of the highlights of my last visit was to take a car ferry over to some of the islands and stay there a couple of days. Korcula, Hvar, and Rab were my favorites. The ferries run pretty regularly and don't take very long to get to most of the islands.
